In 1774, Captain John Ames began making the USA colonies’ first metal shovels in his blacksmith shop in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts. By 1870, Oliver Ames & Sons were producing 60 percent of the world’s metal shovels, filling orders from Europe, Australia, South America, Africa, and China. Ames tools helped to build many of America’s iconic symbols such as the installation of the Statue of Liberty, the Panama Canal, the westward expansion of the railroad, and many others. Today AMES provides a broad range of long handled tools, hand tools, hose reels, garden hoses, and carts to help homeowners and gardeners with all their needs.
